Trails and Paths Alpe Seccio.

Trails and Paths Alpe Seccio is both a destination to reach and a starting point for exploring Val Cavaione and the surrounding peaks.

Below you will find the GPS tracks and technical data of the main paths: the access routes to the hut from the neighboring valleys and the hikes you can take once you reach the top.

Trail 1

Rifugio Alpe Seccio
Cima Massero

From Rifugio Alpe Seccio (1,405 m), the trail heads northwest, climbing the slopes and upper pastures overlooking the alpine pasture.

The ascent continues at a steady gradient for about 1.6 km until reaching an altitude of 1,693 m.

Trail 2

Rifugio Alpe Seccio
Cima Castello

Passing near Alpe Carpia, you reach the ruins of Alpe Piana Selletto. The trail now climbs steeply up to the ridge where Alpe Drusei (1,907 m) is located. Turn right, following the wide ridge to the summit, which offers a splendid panoramic view of Monte Rosa.

Trail 3

Cervatto
Rifugio Alpe Seccio

From the village of Cervatto (1,002 m), follow trail 501 to the hamlet of Giavina, then continue along trail 503 until you reach Prati Rossi (1,030 m). At the junction, turn right onto trail 506 and cross the stream again via a small wooden bridge.

The path climbs past Alpe Oro delle Balme (1,122 m) and continues alongside the stream up to Alpe Oflino (1,270 m). From here, the route traverses a fir forest and ascends further, ending the climb at Bassa del Cavaione pass (1,748 m).

From the pass, enter Val Cavaione following route 397. The descent leads past the CAI Varallo mountain shelter at Alpe Cavaione, then passes Alpe Varmàa and Alpe sull’Oro. Climbing back up the opposite slope through the pastures of Alpe Tetto, the itinerary ends at the scenic basin of Alpe Seccio.

Trail 4

Rossa
Alpe sull'Oro
Rifugio Alpe Seccio

The route begins in the village of Rossa. Take trail 396, which initially develops along the left hydrographic bank of the Rio Cavaione, staying close to the stream.

Continuing along the path, you pass the Oratorio delle Giavinelle, dedicated to the Madonna della Neve. The route then intersects historic small hamlets and, passing near the Pissa del Cainin waterfall, traverses areas of meadows and shrublands. From here, climb up the slope until reaching the pastures of Alpe sull’Oro (1,263 m).

Trail 5

Rifugio Alpe Seccio
Pizzo Tracciora
Boccioleto

From Rifugio Alpe Seccio, follow trail 387 towards Passo del Cavaione (1,748 m). Once you reach the watershed line with Cervatto, the route turns right to follow the entire ridge path leading to the summit of Pizzo Tracciora (1,917 m). From the top, begin the descent following the markers for trail 361.

The track loses altitude along the wooded and grassy ridge, passing in succession Alpe Selletto (1,442 m) and the Giavine mountain pasture (1,196 m).

The final section of the trail crosses the upper hamlets above the municipality of Rossa (Piana and Rainero), before joining the last stretch of mule track that ends directly in the town center of Boccioleto.

Trail 6

Boccioleto
Alpe Seccio

The trail starts in the center of Boccioleto.

Take the paved mule track of trail 387, which climbs northwest up to the hamlet of Ronchi (814 m). From Ronchi, the route continues on a path alternating between woods and clearings, passing a few votive chapels and the hamlets of Ormezzano and Solivo.

The ascent, with a constant gradient, ends on the Alpe Seccio plateau (1,390 m). Here you will find the Oratory of San Lorenzo (15th century) and, just above in Località Alpe Rivetto, Rifugio La Baita Alpe Seccio.
